There were over 35.9 million mentions on Twitter of the Cats Save Tigers campaign, which took place on 29 July with the aim of saving the 3200 tigers left in the wild worldwide.

The campaign, organised by Mr President on behalf of Greenpeace, looked to raise awareness of the shockingly little amount of big cats left in the wild – by harnessing the power of little cats.

Famous cats such as Lil Bub, Princess Monster Truck, Nala Cat and Hamilton the Hipster Cat all got involved in creating mems for the campaign, but it was Captain Pancake that stole the show, with his picture (below) receiving over 75.4k likes and 3.42k comments on @cats_of_instagram.

Tracy Frauzel, mobilisation strategy director at Greenpeace, said: “Reaching new audiences means more experimentation, taking some risks and maybe doing something that will be a little cringe-worthy or seem a bit ‘fluffy’ for some of our more seasoned and serious campaigners. Many of our digital staff are really excited about this campaign, not least because they have a legitimate reason to look at cats online.”
