The World Hepatitis Alliance has racked up more than 340,000 YouTube views in less than a fortnight with a new awareness-raising video in the run-up to today’s World Hepatitis Day.

Created by social media specialists RedPill, the video features the voice of US lounge singer Richard Cheese and hands of Dutch puppeteer Lejo, performing an original musical number entitled ‘Think Again’ to help raise awareness of viral hepatitis, the world’s 8th biggest global killer.

Charles Gore, chief executive, World Hepatitis Alliance, said: “Viral hepatitis is all too often ignored and overlooked, but actually kills more people than HIV/AIDS every single year. The more people that are reached by this video, the more lives we may save.”

Liam Corrigan, creative director at RedPill, said: “Music videos are YouTube's most shared medium. A song allows you to communicate plenty of detailed information about complex subjects in a non-condescending or preachy way. Assuming it's done well, a song has huge potential to trend globally.”

The video has an interactive ending, allowing viewers to learn more about the causes, prevention and treatment of hepatitis. Viewers are also encouraged to spread the word by using the hashtag #thinkhepatitis.
