Oxfam chief executive Mark Goldring has taken part in Channel 4’s Undercover Boss TV series to see how its volunteers raise money and to investigate whether the charity is spending its funds wisely.

During the show, which airs tomorrow at 9pm, Goldring spent a week posing as volunteer in both the UK and the Philippines to see Oxfam “from a different perspective”.

In a blog post on the Oxfam website, he said that he took part in the experience to give people a better idea of the “reality” of the charity’s work which he admitted was "a risk” in terms of handing over editorial control.

"The TV crew decided what to film and had full editorial control, but I trust our people and that paid off," he said in his blog.

Goldring also posted a video on the Oxfam YouTube channel and said: “We have to be open about what we’ve got wrong, as well as what we’ve got right.”
