Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery service is ready to be rolled and could be operational in the UK “in a few years”, the online retailer’s UK chief Christopher North has said.

The brand last year announced via Twitter its plans to undertake shopping deliveries via unmanned aerial drones, and North revealed that once given approval products could be flown to UK consumers in as little as 30 minutes.

“It works and we could do it today. We just need regulatory approval. There is no reason why we couldn’t have them operating in the UK in a few years,” he told The Mirror.

Earlier this month, Amazon head of public policy sent a request to the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) for rules around testing for commercial enterprises be relaxed to allow the e-commerce giant to test out its technology.
