Marvel Comics target female readers with Thor sex change

Marvel Comics has radically rewritten one of its most famous characters, Thor, as a woman as part of a bid to appeal to more female readers.

The famous hammer clutching superhero has been given all new artwork depicting a blonde woman in a helmet, whilst being renamed the ‘Goddess of Thunder’.

Commenting on the sex change Marvel’s editor Wil Moss said: “The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads: ‘Whosover holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription.

“And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute. She’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy.”

To handle the changeover Marvel’s writers plan to script an event which leaves the incumbent Thor unable to continue in the role, forcing him to pass the trusty battle axe to a female companion.

Marvel is cognisant that, contrary to stereotype, nearly half of all of its readers are female but they have thus far lacked role models within the genre.
