Betfair has taken its giant octopus to The Open golf championship in the latest marketing stunt from the online betting company.

The three metre tall octopus, which appears in Betfair’s latest advert, has appeared today (17 July) overlooking the 4th green and 5th tee of the Royal Liverpool Golf Course, offering messages of support to players as they make their way down the fairway.

Consumer public relations manager at Betfair, Harry Phillips commented: “To celebrate the start of The Open, Betfair is hosting a party ‘In an Octopus’s Garden’. It’s our nod to the song ‘Octopus’s Garden’ by Liverpool’s most famous sons, The Beatles”.

The Octopus was first spotted in central London after a van transporting it broke down in Oxford Circus.
