Airbnb is gearing up to unveil a complete brand overhaul after the accommodation booking site quietly announced a live streaming event.

The new look includes a logo redesign and will be revealed on Wednesday (16 July) via a live link from the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

In a statement on its website, Airbnb said: “What started as a way for a few friends to pay the rent has transformed into something bigger than we ever imagined. Airbnb is now a community of millions of people from nearly every country on earth. We invite you to come back to where it all began so we can show you where we’re heading next—together.”

Initial teaser images show a modular design, with the ‘A’ given more prominence.

In May Airbnb announced that former Coca-Cola VP of global advertising strategy Jonathan Mildenhall would take up the role of chief marketing officer.

The announcement comes after a tense few weeks for the community website, which has come under fire city authorities around the world for breaching local tourism laws – the site allows users to advertise a spare room, or entire flat or house, to rent for short periods of time.

Last month the British Hospitality Association hit out at the site, raising questions about health and safety and property regulations.
