Manchester United will later confirm Adidas as the club’s official kit supplier worth a record £70m annually, in a deal worth double the current Nike agreement which expires this season, according to the Daily Mail.

Adidas was an official World Cup sponsor

The Red Devils rejected bids from both Warrior and Under Armour to replace Nike, the club's supplier of 13 years.

Germany’s biggest sportswear manufacturer will unveil the new kit this summer. This season's kit, which is sponsored by Chevrolet, is the last to be produced by Nike. It has been a source of ridicule for the club with critics comparing it to the garb of a popular Little Britain character.

The contract will return Adidas’ iconic Three Stripes to the Manchester United strip.

The club, which lost around £50m in revenue for failing to qualify for the Champions League under former manager David Moyes last season, will see the deal as a huge boost.

On the decision not to renew its deal, Nike said: “Any partnership with a club or federation has to be mutually beneficial and the terms that were on offer for a renewed contract did not represent good value for Nike’s shareholders.

“Manchester United is a great club with passionate fans. We are proud to have partnered with them for the last 12 years and will continue to sponsor the club until the end of the 2014/15 season.”

This news comes a week after Arsenal decided to ditch Nike for Puma in a deal worth £30m per year.
