Michael Acton Smith, the man behind Moshi Monsters, has announced that he is moving to a creative leadership role at Mind Candy as the company eyes US expansion.

Stepping aside from the role of CEO reports suggest a new chief executive has not been found yet, though chief operating officer and chief financial officer Divinia Knowles, who has been with the company for eight years, will become interim president.

Acton Smith confirmed that since starting Mind Candy his role has "drifted away from the creative side that I really enjoy".

He commented: "It sounds dramatic but it's exciting, and means I can spend more time building up our sketchbooks and doing creative things like developing new characters."

According to Acton Smith the plan is to "take Mind Candy public". Adding: "We're super ambitious, and Europe needs more technology startups to be super ambitious."

In addition to Moshi Monsters Mind Candy develops mobile game PopJam, and the new game World of Warriors.
