Veteran Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow has volunteered as a guinea pig in a Google Glass mind control experiment, by channelling his brainwaves into powering the wearable tech.

The new interface has been devised by user experience firm The Place, who have released the MindRDR app which can save people the bother of issuing voice and tactile commands by donning an EEG monitoring headband.

This simple system can identify yes and no commands for simple tasks such as snapping a photo by measuring levels of electrical activity in the brain – which can be boosted by concentrating.

Its makers stress that the system is no mere gimmick and could be useful for coma victims and those with quadriplegia to communicate with the world. To make this happen The Place have posted their software to the GitHub developer community in the hope that others will pick up the cudgel and refine their work further.

A Google spokesperson said: “Of course, we are always interested in hearing about new applications of Glass and we've already seen some great research from a variety of medical fields from surgery to Parkinson's.

"Google Glass cannot read your mind.”
