A top TripAdvisor critic is being threatened with legal action by an irate restaurateur over a series of ‘nasty’ and ‘libellous’ comments left on the popular review site.

Chris Hobson is alleged to have penned a series of negative missives about the Double Barrel steakhouse in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, after its owner refused to serve a meal for free.

Sarah Bird says she has instructed her lawyers to take action on Friday after the highly critical review was posted, alleging that its venom was spurred by a 30 per cent bill reduction rather than the perceived qualities or lack thereof of her fare.

Rejecting the personal criticism however Hobson retorted: “I had a horrendous experience so left a review explaining exactly why I thought that.”
