Telefónica hands ZenithOptimedia £200m European media account

Telefónica has appointed ZenithOptimedia to handle its £200m European media account following a competitive pitch.

The Publicis-owned agency was up against agencies from Dentsu Aegis, Havas and WPP Group; with the Spanish business previously handled by WPP’s Mindshare.

In a statement, the owner of the O2 network said: “Telefónica has awarded the global tender for a media agency to Publicis Group for the next five years after a process of analysis and evaluation over the last five months.”

ZenithOptimedia will now work with the Telefónica brand in 16 global territories, beginning in the Spanish and Argentinian markets in January 2015.
