Louise Cooper has been appointed head of external communications at John Lewis, a newly created role.

She has been tasked with overseeing all areas of PR for the business, across both consumer and corporate disciplines.

Cooper has been at the retailer for eight years, most recently in the role of senior manager for corporate, digital and branch PR, where she developed the company's social media strategy and new shop openings programme.

John Lewis recently beat the likes of Tesco, Amazon and Argos to be named the best retailer on mobile in the EPi Server Mobile Commerce 2014 report.
