Facebook accidentally launches Slingshot app early
Facebook has accidentally launched Slingshot – its version of Snapchat – early, and has since had to delete the app from the Apple App Store.
The app ‘slings’ content such as photos and videos to friends who are also using the app, and according to the blurb on the App Store before being removed, users can also draw on or add caption to the images.
However, a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch: “Earlier today, we accidentally released a version of Slingshot, a new app we’re working on. With Slingshot, you’ll be able to share everyday moments with lots of people at once. It’ll be ready soon and we’re excited for you to try it out.”
The creation of Slingshot comes following the failure of Poke, an app which saw images and videos disappear after ten seconds.
Facebook has recently announced the appointment of David Marcus, previously president and VP of mobile at PayPal, to lead up mobile messaging.
