England sponsors Vauxhall have been left red-faced after their social media team inadvertently tweeted the passport numbers of the entire squad to the world in error.

The mistake came as the car brand sought to capitalise on publicity surrounding the team’s friendly against Ecuador by tweeting a picture of the team sheet which contained the sensitive information, a serious security breach for the squad.

To add insult to injury the document also contained the signatures of midfielder Frank Lampard and Michelle Farrar, director of team operations.

Vauxhall moved to swiftly retract the offending tweet but not before copies of the sheet were made and disseminated widely across social media.

A Vauxhall spokesman said: “We realised we made a mistake immediately and the tweet was deleted from our account within a minute. We have apologised to the FA for any embarrassment caused.”
