Spar has appointed Blue Chip to handle its first shopper marketing campaign

The hire comes as Spar noted a global sales growth of 4.1 per cent to €3.2bn for the year ending December 2013. However, in the UK, it saw a decline in sales of 1.8 per cent, down from €3.1bn in 2013 to €3bn.

The convenience store chain is now looking to target specific groups of shoppers with activity that will run across more than 2000 of Spar’s UK stores from August this year.

“We were aware of the work that Blue Chip had done on big convenience brands such as Irn-Bru, Tizer and Rubicon, as well as its previous work for store groups like the Co-Operative,” said Spar’s head of marketing Philippe Rondepierre.

“That made the agency a natural first choice to help us create our first shopper marketing campaign.”

Blue Chip said it is currently recruiting at all levels in order to handle the newly-won new business.
