Spotify becomes the latest victim of hackers
Music streaming site Spotify is the latest in a string of technology companies to be targeted by hackers.
Spotify said that no financial, password or payment information had been breached but that as a precautionary measure it is asking a portion of its users to re-enter their username and password to log in over the next few days.
In addition, Android users of the mobile app are being advised to upgrade as “a precautionary measure against any potential ongoing risk”.
Chief technology officer Oskar Stål wrote on the Swedish company’s website: “We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, but hope you understand that this is a necessary precaution to safeguard the quality of our service and protect our users.
“We have taken steps to strengthen our security systems in general and help protect you and your data – and we will continue to do so. We will be taking further actions in the coming days to increase security for our users.”
Yesterday (28 May) Apple users in Australia were hit by hackers demanding a ransom after locking their devices, while eBay last week urged its 233 million users to change their passwords after suffering a security breach.
