Fresh from his Chairman’s Award win at this year’s Roses Creative Awards, The Gate director Cosmo Wallace has a launched a Kickstarter campaign to get his script about superheroes interns inspired by a decade of working in advertising and film into production.

‘Super Duper’ is based on Wallace’s real-life experiences and explores what it’s like when your big dreams hit brick walls.

“It’s a comedy-drama about a pair of Superhero Interns trapped on a secret base during the end of the world. It’s ‘Clerks’ meets ‘The Avengers’,” Wallace told The Drum.

He added: “It’s based on my real life exploits trying – and failing – to be a superhero in the real world…It’s also equally based on shared experiences of myself and of many friends of our years starting out in advertising, TV and film, right at the very bottom, surrounded by success and wondering if you’ll ever go above sweeping the set. So even though it’s about a magical world in which superheroes are real, I hope that there’s a lot there to identify with.”

Having worked in advertising for a decade Wallace has already drafted in a host of cinematographers, art directors and motion graphic artists who want to help make Super Duper a reality, including BAFTA-nominated Paul O’Callaghan and internationally signed director Mike Fisher.

Each person who donates to the Kickstarter fund, open from today (Tuesday 20 May) until Saturday 21 June will receive a reward as Wallace hopes to raise a total of £145,000 to get the project off the ground.
