Nokia to rebrand as Microsoft Mobile

An internal Nokia memo has been leaked to the media suggesting that the fallen Finnish mobile phone giant could be about to be rebranded as Microsoft Mobile after being subsumed by its new owners.

An excerpt published by Mashable states: “Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.”

Microsoft revealed that it was purchasing the former mobile market leader for $7.2bn last September and is expected to conclude the deal on 25 April.

This will see Microsoft acquire all ‘rights, benefits and obligations’ of Nokia’s devices and services business.
