BSkyB spends £264m a year on UK advertising, Google’s ad spend up 50% to £46m
BskyB is the top spending advertiser in the UK, research from Nielsen Ad Dynamix has found, with £264m being spent in 2013.
Procter and Gamble (£177m), BT (£149m) and Unilever (£119m) were the advertisers with the next largest spend in the UK, while Google ranked number 31.
Rob Tavendale, media insights manager at Nielsen, said: "In the fiercely competitive telecoms sector, BSkyB's spend was up 10 per cent, as it faced increased competition from BT.”
The global search giant spent about £46m on its ad campaigns in 2013, up from £30m in 2012. Around a third of the money was spent on TV ads, with £3.5m on press, £4m on cinema spots and a further £5m on billboards and other outdoor advertising.
Despite this, the total amount spent on UK advertising fell by 2.35 per cent compared with 2012, Nielsen found.
