Tunbridge Wells-based full service agency Nexus/H has been relaunched under the new name Southpaw, a name that aims to reflect the agency's challenger mind-set, unorthodox approach and a desire to win.

The agency was launched some 44 years ago with Honda as its first client - a client that it still has a strong relationship with across Europe to this day.

In February 2013 Tom Poynter, former joint CEO at Iris London, joined the agency as managing director, a move which saw Ian Norman step down from the role of group managing director later in the year. In December 2013 the agency resigned from the Cunard account, with Poynter outlining the reason for this was the agency’s renewed focus on working with “brave brands”.

Speaking of the relaunch and rebrand to Southpaw, Poynter said: “Over the last four and half decades our agency has grown, developed and morphed as marketing channels have ignited and matured. But today sees a real step change in that evolution. As an agency, we want to engage with challenger brands who are looking for marketing minds to help outperform rather than outspend the competition. We also want to give well established brands the forward momentum they need to engage with their ever changing consumers.

To do this, we have focussed on our agency strengths and blended together our capabilities of creativity, media and technology. We have also invested in our strategic and data planning offering to provide the glue that binds these capabilities together. Add to this our international partnership with the award winning Japanese marketing services network Hakuhodo and the result is an agency that produces “Brave Thinking” - ideas that disrupt as well as persuade, whilst building equity into our client’s products and services. The agency that will deliver all of this is called Southpaw. ”

Southpaw now employs 65 people within its UK operation and is serving international clients like Honda, SAB Miller, Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, Canon, Samsung and Vogue.
