A year after PayPal introduced a system to let people pay with their profile picture, it has launched two new features: ‘Order Ahead’ and ‘Pay At Table’.

“Our new services show that the way we pay for things on the high street is changing – and today you can now use our app to pay at over 2,000 UK high street shops and restaurants. We believe this announcement marks the biggest ever boost for mobile payments on the British high street,” Imogen Howat, PR and social media manager at PayPal UK, said.

Through the ordering ahead app, users will be able to choose and order from restaurants such as Wagamama’s, with the aim of saving time when the order is collected.

You can also pay for your meal at your table at restaurants, such as Prezzo, through the app, with the option of splitting the bill with your friends also available.

This, PayPal says, will save the hassle of waiting for the waiter to bring the bill and waiting for the card machine.

“PayPal’s app lets people pay for goods with the one thing they always carry with them – their smartphone. This reflects what we truly believe in - that mobile is at the heart of the new age of money,” Howat added.

Prezzo and GBK are celebrating the launch by running exclusive offers for customers who pay via the PayPal app.
