The #nomakeupselfie campaign for Cancer Research UK has now made over £2m within less than a week, the charity has revealed.

The campaign, which aimed to take advantage of the selfie trend where people take pictures of themselves using their mobile phone, began last Tuesday and made £1m within the first 24 hours, a sum that has now more than doubled.

Cancer Research has said that the campaign was not planned by the charity itself.

Carolan Davidge, director of communications at Cancer Research UK said: “It's great to see so many people getting involved to help raise awareness of cancer amongst their friends and family. If people would like to choose to support our work to beat cancer sooner, they can visit cruk.org."

Other charities, including Macmillan Cancer, have also claimed to have seen a lift in donations as a result of the campaign.
