Japan is aiming to be the very best, like no one ever was, in the Brazillian World Cup, as it reveals that Pokemon character Pikachu will be its official mascot.

Those who used to collect Pokemon cards will remember Pikachu as the yellow ‘electric mouse’ figure.

Adidas, official apparel sponsor of the Japanese football team, confirmed it had reached an agreement for Pikachu and 10 other Pokemon characters – including Charmander and Squirtle from the original series – to support the team.

Other Pokemon from the latest video games – X and Y – will also be featured, such as Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie.
