Frustrated iPhone users turn to Twitter following automatic redirects to download William Hill app
iPhone users were venting their frustration on Twitter yesterday after an error saw users being redirected to the William Hill app on the App Store while trying to visit certain sites.People trying to read articles on the Guardian, Radio Times and BBC Good Food pages were being redirected towards the download page for the betting app.William Hill said it was not intentional, with the issue due to a link which was wrongly set up. The issue has now been rectified.Jem Maidment, head of public relations at William Hill online, told The Drum: “For a short period there was an issue which saw some mobile phone users automatically directed to our app in the App Store as well as their intended site.“This was due to a link wrongly set up by one of our suppliers – this is a common problem on mobile ad content across many industries.“Once this was identified we acted quickly to rectify the situation. It has now been resolved - we apologise for any inconvenience.”
