BIMA has found that 87 per cent of students who took part in D-Day 2013 are likely to consider a career in digital, compared to the 45 per cent who were considering the digital arena before the event.

BIMA D-Day took place on Thursday 10 October 2013, and saw 4,000 school children from 100 schools across the UK work with mentors from digital agencies, including DigitasLBi, SapientNitro, Amaze, Redweb and Weapon7.

Two thirds (67 per cent) of surveyed students said that they had never had any information at school or college about the possibility of a career in digital.

Nat Gross, CEO at Amaze said: “These survey results really highlight the lack of awareness of digital as a career path amongst school-age children. Despite the digital economy being such an important driver for growth in the UK, it’s clear that we’re not doing enough to inspire young people about the possibilities of a career in this dynamic and exciting industry.”

It was also discovered that, prior to taking part in D-Day, only 31 per cent had any idea where to go to find information about working in the digital industry.
