RSPB launches Centre for Conservation Science with help from 999 Design
The RSPB has called on 999 Design to launch the ‘RSPB Centre for Conservation Science’ which will ultimately help the charity promote and share its scientific work as it strives to become an internationally recognised centre of excellence in conservation science by 2020.
999 were tasked with creating the visual concept and strategic approach for RSPB communications, upholding its values and visual identity whilst appealing to the variety of key audiences such as conservation scientists, policy makers and funders.
The centre will launch today (Wednesday 26 February) at an awards event held at the Royal Society London, where three winners will receive the first of an annual awards scheme for excellence in the field of conservation science.
“We are really excited to be launching the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science – the creative and strategic approach taken by 999 has truly encapsulated the right tone and overall ambition of the Centre. Ultimately they have created a great foundation for the Centre and all of its communications,” said Dr Jennifer Smart, senior conservation scientist at RSPB.
Creative director at 999 John Speight added: “Everyone knows and loves the RSPB and has an idea of what they do, but very few people are aware of the incredible science they carry out to deliver considered conservation. The launch of the Centre would fulfill many objectives but importantly, in the long term, it would increase support and funding, so it was vital that the full magnitude of the science 'story' was very clear.”
In addition 999 also produced a key launch report – ‘Where Science Comes to Life’ – recording some of the RSPB’s most important work over the past decade. A new visual identity will be employed on launch materials and in the online hub which features a database of more than 1,000 peer reviewed papers written by RSPB scientists.
