Getty Images, the company best known for supplying photos to media outlets, has announced the launch of a new embed tool which allows consumers access to more than 35 million images for the first time.

By clicking on the tool users are able to share content on blogs, social media channels and websites, with the embed codes supported by all open source platforms.

The stock photo agency said the new functionality “serves to power a more image-rich, digital world in situations where traditional licensing models are not appropriate or where they simply don’t work”.

Photographers are credited for the use of the image, and the tool enables the licensing of the imagery for commercial purposes by linking the viewer back to the Getty Images website.

Getty said this will provide people with a “simple and legal way to utilise content that respects creators’ rights”.

The tool is the latest in a serious of moves by Getty to capitalise on image-led content and to “harness the pace of technological change driven by the internet and social media”. Getty recently partnered with Pinterest to utilise its image search technology and also with YouTube to allow users to add Getty Images Music tracks to their videos.

The company also launched a new ios app, ‘Moment’, which allows Getty Images and iStock photographers to submit photos directly from their iPhone.
