Mobile World Congress: Sony updates flagship Xperia line-up with a trio of new devices

Sony has lifted the lid on a trio of new smartphones and tablets to augment its flagship Xperia line as the Mobile World Congress gets underway in Barcelona.

The range of gadgets includes the Xperia Z2 tablet, described as the world’s slimmest and lightest waterproof’ device, as well as the Xperia Z2 and M2 smartphones. In addition to the expected specifications boost these gadgets also harbour a number of design innovations; notably the first incorporation of digital noise cancelling technology in a tablet.

Kunimasa Suzuki, president and CEO, Sony Mobile Communications said: “The Xperia Z2 Tablet represents the pinnacle of tablet innovation and is a true flagship in our premium line. We have evolved our cutting-edge design to create the slimmest lightweight tablet matched with Sony’s latest technologies to deliver a unique user experience. And with our new range of dedicated accessories, you can further now enhance your tablet experience whether for work or play, at home or on the go.”

The M2 meanwhile is being touted as a market leading mid-range device with a nippy processor and built in 8MP camera, as well as a 4.8” screen, the largest display for its price point.

Calum MacDougall, director of Xperia marketing at Sony Mobile Communications noted: “Xperia M2 is an ultra fast smartphone that offers brilliant specs and performance, reaching new audiences with a mid-range price. This is a great device for the customer looking for a smartphone that has it all. It combines the best of Sony, bringing you our latest technologies complimented with a one of its kind, unique entertainment offer never before seen on a mid-range smartphone.”

Last but not least is Sony’s premium smartphone, the Xperia Z2, which marries waterproof technology with 4k recording, digital noise cancellation and a 20.7MP camera which will launch globally next month.

We have redefined the smartphone once again through our camera.
