Music video platform Vevo reported a 33 per cent rise in the number of videos viewed globally in 2013 to 55 billion, boosted by a 176 per cent surge in views from mobile/tablet devices and connected TVs.

Increase: Global views are up for Vevo

In the UK, views from mobile/tablet devices and connected TVs were up an even higher 201 per cent, with total views from the UK up by 29 per cent to 2.6 billion. In December 2013, more than half (51 per cent) of monthly UK views were delivered by mobiles, tablets and connected TVs.

The stats follow the announcement last August that Apple TV viewers would have access to Vevo’s library of 75,000 music videos after the app was added to the Apple TV platform.

For the month of December, Vevo recorded 243 million unique users worldwide, while average monthly views for December rose from 3.8 billion in 2012 to 5.5 billion in 2013.

There was one celebrity in particular who helped Vevo reach its traffic heights. Its annual report stated: “Miley Cyrus set two Vevo records with the September 2013 release of her ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video.

“The controversial video delivered 19.3 million views in one day and was fastest to certified status reaching 100 million view in just six days. Miley set the previous Vevo milestones with her ‘We Can’t Stop’ video (12.3 million views in 24 hours; 37 days to certified.”

The top five most shared videos in the UK were Robin Thicke ft. T.I and Pharrell with ‘Blurred Lines’, Pink ft. Nate Ruess with ‘Just Give Me A Reason’, Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith with ‘La La La’, John Newman with ‘Love Me Again’ and Avicii with ‘Wake Me Up’.
