Warner Music Group teams up with Shazam for new label
Warner Music Group and Shazam have announced that they have formed a new strategic alliance to source new acts and talent for a Shazam branded label.
Both players are set to collaborate on marketing for the venture to draw unsigned artists to the initiative by combining the apps promotional channels with Warner’s global A&R expertise.
Rob Wiesenthal, COO/corporate, Warner Music Group said. “By partnering with Shazam, a brand which is synonymous with music discovery for fans all around the world, we have forged a potent proposition: the first crowd-sourced, big data record label.
“While data and crowd sourced analyses will never be a substitute for the expertise and instincts of our A&R professionals, we do believe the information we obtain for this new label will provide very useful signals that will bolster our ability to find the stars of tomorrow."
Initial successes to emerge from the new alliance include an exclusive Super Bowl Bruno Mars video and other material from artists Wiz Khalifa and Chromeo.
