Edward Snowden elected as rector for Glasgow University

Students at the University of Glasgow have appointed whistleblower Edward Snowden as student rector.Snowden was against cyclist Graeme Obree, author Alan Bissett and Scottish Episcopal clergyman Kelvin Holdsworth for the position, but received over double the votes of each of these candidates.The Glasgow University Students' Representative Council announced the results on Twitter.

In his new role, taking over from previous Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy, Snowden will be expected to work with the students' representative council, and to bring student concerns to the attention of university management.Snowden agreed to stand for the position after being contacted by students.
