Moshi Monsters publisher Mind Candy has appointed LoveFilm founder Saul Klein to its board in a bid to halt a decline in numbers at the hit children’s website.

The venture capitalist is well regarded in internet investment circles for his role in driving the early success of Skype as part of its management team and took on his new role at the end of last month.

Klein was amongst the first investors in Mind Candy when it first emerged back in 2004 as an offline games maker.

Since that time it has grown to become a darling of London’s Tech City, Shoreditch, posting total revenues of £46.9m for 2012, up 60 per cent on the year before – although its pre-tax profit remained steady at about £10m.

Concerns are mounting that the Moshi Monsters golden goose may be about to lay fewer eggs however, with traffic to the website declining sharply from 1.3m to 730,000 over the course of 2013 in Britain and from 1.7m to 743,000 in the US.
