Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped out of retirement and returned to the world of football, but before you get too excited he's only dusting of his boots to help Xbox and EA Sports launch 'Play Like a Legend' across the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

The promotional campaign, which starts with today’s ‘press conference’, sees Van Nistelrooy promote his status as a FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Legend Player.

The Dutch football legend will then lend his star power to a weekly series of short films hosted on the Play Like a Legend campaign hub. A weekly competition will determine the top FIFA 14 player in each of the target markets, with a new challenged issued via the campaign hub each week.

Entrants can the submit their own video content with other players voting on the top submissions, winners will take home a range of prizes from FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) coins, to Legends items and Xbox One consoles. At the end of the competition the top winner in each market will get to sign Van Nistelrooy to their team.

The campaign was created by Jam, with Jam and Engine executive creative director, Wayne Deakin, commenting: “Play Like a Legend is the future of integrated storytelling – the campaign puts fans and communities right into the core of the story…[it] is exactly the sort of work we love at Jam – disruptive, creative and it breaks the rules.”

The work is Jam’s first large campaign for Xbox since winning the account last year.
