To celebrate Royal Ascot 2014, Ascot Racecourse has commissioned Royal Academist David Mach to create a collage bringing the racing, pageantry, style, elegance and fine dining of the event together.

The collage, which will be displayed at this year’s Royal Ascot and unveiled today at the Royal Academy, is made up of over 200 images taken from the event, including Estimate, The Queen’s own Gold Cup winner of 2013; Channel 4 Racing lead presenter, Clare Balding; and the current top trainer at Royal Ascot, Aidan O'Brien.

"It's heartening in this digital, CGI world that a tradition such as collage still has a place. David Mach is regarded as one of its greatest exponents and this medium seems perfect at capturing one of Britain’s greatest sporting events,” said Tim Ashton, creative director at Antidote, the agency behind the campaign.

Mediavest was the media agency for the campaign, although the media spend is currently unknown.

Juliet Slot, Commercial Director at Ascot Racecourse, said: “We wanted our campaign to reinforce that Royal Ascot is an aspirational and inclusive occasion which offers a whole range of wonderful experiences across each of the five-days for people to enjoy. We were delighted to commission such a respected artist in David Mach to showcase this mix of world-class racing, pageantry, tradition, excitement, patriotism and style which helps make Royal Ascot such a well-loved event.

“The campaign allows us to tell some evocative personal stories through our digital platforms from those in the racing world.”

Stories of those in the collage are set to be told on the Ascot Racecourse Facebook page.
