Israeli boycott campaigners claim victory in Scarlett Johansson SodaStream row
Campaigners calling for Israeli withdrawal from occupied land in Palestinian territories are claiming victory in the SodaStream row which has seen Scarlett Johansson end her support for Oxfam.
Omar Barghouti, founder of the Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, claims the high-profile spat has boosted a boycott of Israeli goods by private individuals, companies and governments.
He said: "the political atmosphere has changed towards enforcing international law. Israel's impunity is being eroded. BDS is growing tremendously and that is affecting decision-makers everywhere. We are changing the discourse."
The growing agitation hasn’t found favour with the 500 Palestinians employed by the plant however, with one production line worker, Nida, telling the guardian: “We are against the boycott idea. It would destroy us. Yes, this place is a settlement, but that's normal. It's easy to get here and it's a good place to work."
