Talksport has announced record listening figures for the fourth quarter with 3.2m people tuning in for its daily diet of sports chat, a six per cent increase year-on-year.

The figures are contained in the latest RAJAR results which show 81 per cent of listeners are male with 55 per cent categorised as ABC1.

Live football fuelled the increase with exclusive Barclays Premier League commentary on Sunday afternoon’s netting a 22 per cent increase on the previous year.

Liam Fisher, Talksport’s programme director, said: “These figures are testament to the strength of our on-air talent and the new additions to this team which have included broadcasters Colin Murray and Johnny Vaughan and former sportsmen including David Ginola, Neil Warnock and Brian Moore.

We’ve got a fantastic team in place and I can’t wait to bring our listeners all of the action from the World Cup in Brazil live in just a few months’ time. As an official broadcaster of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, we’ll be dedicating more coverage to the tournament than anyone else, providing a fantastic opportunity for current and potential advertisers.”

The station also reported record figures for its digital platforms, recording the highest ever number of visitors to its website in January 2014 with the majority stemming from mobiles and tablets.
