The Guardian has unveiled, for the first time, footage of Guardian editors destroying hard drives and memory cards on which encrypted files leaked by Edward Snowden had been stored, under the watchful eyes of two GCHQ technicians.

The footage, on the Guardian website, has been revealed in the run up to the publication of a new book next week - The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man – which was written by the Guardian correspondent Luke Harding.

The book describes how the Guardian took the decision to destroy its own Macbooks using electric drills after the government explicitly threatened the paper with an injunction.

The Guardian has said that an extract of the book will be published tomorrow.
