Twitter and CNN pair with Dataminr to create news tool for journalists

Twitter and CNN have announced a partnership with Dataminr to create an alert system for journalists called Dataminr for News.

The system aims to close the gap between the time news happens and the time journalists begin to report the story, by helping to identify breaking news and verifiable sources on Twitter quickly and accurately.

“Dataminr’s technology represents some of the best real-time Twitter analysis we’ve seen. Its ability to identify critical Tweets almost immediately makes it a great tool for news organisations. Today’s announcement is an exciting step not only for Twitter in the newsroom, but also for the broader Twitter ecosystem,” said Jana Messerschmidt, VP of business development and platform relations, Twitter.

CNN helped provide feedback on the product during alpha stages.

Ted Bailey, founder and CEO of Dataminr, added: “Dataminr for News will be available to all news agencies globally in 2014. We are excited by the prospect of transforming newsgathering with Twitter and are confident that journalists around the world will find our product to be crucial to their news-making.”
