Manchester United sponsor Chevrolet apologises for premature Juan Mata tweet

Manchester United sponsors Chevrolet has been forced to apologise after it inadvertently broke an embargo announcing the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea. The post, since deleted, welcomed the player to the club and invited followers to share their opinions of the move – but within hours the car brand had to apologise, conceding they had been "a little eager" in making the pronouncement.

Mata signed a mammoth £37m transfer deal to the Manchester side last week but the club had hoped to keep the deal under wraps until they’d confirmed personal terms, Chevrolet however had other ideas.Chevrolet was left doubly embarrassed by the faux pas after being bombarded by amused tweeters pointing out that Mata isn’t actually a striker but a frontman.
