The Drum's Design Census, the most comprehensive review of the UK design industry, is to be sponsored by global type company Monotype.

The research will be published on 19 March this year, and will rank agencies based on three criteria: financial performance, client satisfaction and peer influence.

Neil Ayres, editor of Brand Perfect at Monotype, believes that the Design Census comes at a time of increasing demands on UK agencies.

He said: "It's becoming more widely appreciated that branding is about more than visual identity, it's about customer services, product quality, tone of voice, accessibility and communications. The industry must respond to its clients, who are learning that it is increasingly important to have direct dialogue with their customers."

Gordon Young, editor of The Drum, said: “The Drum’s extensive Design Census will serve as a client guide to the dynamic design sector in the UK."

Research for the Design Census is underway and The Drum has extended the deadline by a week, with UK design agencies being called on to complete an online survey by Wednesday 22 January.
