Channel 5 owner Richard Desmond is believed to be in talks with Vincent Tan, owner of Cardiff City Football Club, and PlayTech, an Israeli gambling group, over a potential sale of the Health Lottery.

Desmond is reportedly looking for more that £100m for the scheme, a rival to the National Lottery with donates a fifth of revenues to health charities.

The Health Lottery’s asking price is reportedly based its position to challenge Camelot, operator of the National Lottery, for its licence when it comes up for renewal in 2023.

The talks come as Desmond eyes a potential £700m sale of Channel 5, a station he bought just three years ago for £103m.

BT and Sky are rumoured to be interested in the station, however analysts have more recently suggested that the sale is likely to attract an oversees buyer.
