Al Jazeera English appoints Edelman to handle UK PR

Al Jazeera English, the UK arm of the Qatar-based media group, has appointed Edelman on a retained basis to handle its UK communications.

Head of media and public relations at Al Jazeera Media Network, Osama Saeed, commented on the hire, saying: “Al Jazeera English is already the most-watched international news and current affairs channel in the UK. In today’s interconnected global village, there’s a huge need and appetite for our news and programmes. We want to continue increasing our audience.

“We found Edelman was the ideal partner to help us achieve this, with their knowledge of the British media landscape, creative approach to communications, and experienced talented team.”

Al Jazeera had until recently worked with Burson-Marsteller, but ended the three year relationship at the end of 2013.
