Sainsbury’s Bank has appointed White & Mackay marketer Cara Chambers to the new role of head of customer and brand for Sainsbury’s Bank.

Chambers took up the new position from this week, The Drum understands, having left the United Spirits owned company she joined as brand manager at the beginning of 2012

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s confirmed the appointment and added: "Cara has over 20 years marketing and brand experience within major blue chip companies including United Distillers and Heineken and most recently Whyte & Mackay.

"She joins Sainsbury's Bank at an exciting time in its history." they added.

Steven Pearson, Whyte & Mackay's global planning director, has now been appointed to take over as marketing director, the company has confirmed.

Prior to joining Whyte and Mackay, Chambers ran her own marketing consultancy, having previously been head of innovation at Scottish & Newcastle UK and an assistant brand manager for Diageo during her career.

Meanwhile, Diageo, which has a controlling stake in United Spirits, has reportedly taken a new tact within the company to protect its international strategy of growth, especially within India, having seen sales in the US and Western Europe plateau, according to reports.

It is thought that the Indian Scotch part of the business is the main interest for Diageo, with scotch sales growing internationally in recent months.
