Google beats Apple to become most talked about company of 2013 claims Dow Jones

Google is the world’s most talked about company this year, according to data released by Dow Jones.

The business and financial analyst has released data from the last year looking at which media companies generated the most coverage, with Google topping the list with 123,769 articles, beating Apple into second with 120,451 articles, down by 27 per cent on 2012.

Just beating JP Morgan to make the 10th place, with over 300 media mentions was IBM.

The data was compiled using the news archive of Factiva, and coverage of each blue chip company within The Global Dow index between 1 January and 1 December this year.

The top 10 companies were Google (123,769), Apple (120,451), Microsoft (84,174), Bank of America (70,785), Boeing (61,800), Citigroup (59, 276), BP (53,231), Goldman Sachs (51,174), Deutsche Bank (50,069) and IBM (48,734).

An interactive infographic has been developed to accompany the data, and includes a breakdown of each month and the number of mentions the company received, with Google seeing its largest number of media mentions in May with 13,336.
