Dailymotion, the video platform, has acquired Jilion – the development team behind the HTML5 video technology, Sublime Video – as it part of its ongoing plans to offer more original, premium content across multiple platforms.

Dailymotion revealed its plans to launch production studios in the US and the UK earlier this year, with head of content Marc Eychenne telling The Drum that it is increasingly critical to have original, exclusive, premium content which can maintain high advertising CPMs.

With this acquisition, Dailymotion is hoping to command an even larger share of video market by allowing brands, media companies as well it its consumers to create video content with customised features for multiple platforms as well as enhanced playback features and increased social integration.

“The player is at the heart of our video distribution platform – it is key for us to offer the best experience on the market, and Jilion with its SublimeVideo engine is by far the best solution out there.” said Cedric Tournay, CEO of Dailymotion.

“The Jilion team will further help us connect users, content producers and advertisers on an unprecedented viewing experience on desktop, mobile, tablets and TV.”

Currently. the platfrom has around 120 million unique monthly visitors and 2.5 billion video views each month, while a third of all Dailymotion traffic is now via mobile globally, a figure which fluctuates according to territory.
