EE has announced that it is to give an early Christmas present to 29 UK towns and cities by offering access to its superfast 4G mobile internet service for the first time.

The move brings the networks coverage up to 160 towns and cities with Bath, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge, Darlington, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Northampton, Poole, Portsmouth and Redcar being the latest additions.

Thereafter residents of Aberdeen, Braintree, Cheltenham, Chester, Dundee, Durham, Exeter, Gloucester, Grimsby, Ipswich, Lincoln, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Peterborough, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Swansea, Swindon and York will be able to speedily browse the web over the holiday period.

Olaf Swantee, chief executive officer, EE, said: “From online banking and mobile shopping, to streaming music and using maps, 4G is enabling us to do more of our favourite things quickly and easily on the go. Smartphones and tablets on 4GEE are going to be a very popular present this Christmas as people across the UK continue to embrace mobile living and we make the superfast service available in even more places.”

EE state that their 4G roll-out is fuelling a rise in internet shopping with 39 per cent of 4GEE customers saying they bought gifts on a smartphone or tablet this year – up from 15 per cent last year.
