1HQ has announced that Kevin Johnson has joined the agency as executive creative director as part of its expansion strategy for 2014.

Johnson, who most recently served as creative strategy director at Seymour Powell, has held roles in the US and Europe for major companies including Landor San Francisco, Coley Porter Bell, and Identica delivering work for clients such as Unilever, Diageo, Nestle and Mondelez.

He has also worked client side, serving as design manager at Procter & Gamble where he led the creative for brands such as Head & Shoulders and Ariel.

“1HQ’s understanding of what clients actually want and need as well as their desire to engage with their customers in a meaningful way from the shelf out and on the path to purchase are two key aspects which attracted me to the firm,” he explained.

"Their philosophy of getting to the core of a brand and why it should matter to consumers is something I applaud, particularly having dealt with numerous agencies in the past whom I’ve felt never really understood the problem we needed them to solve. 1HQ are ambitious, their use of creativity to drive brands forward and their continuous questioning of ‘What next?’ for the industry, are the types of questions I want to help them answer.”

Johnson officially began the role at the branding agency this week.
