Johnston Press is close to a £10m deal to sell its Irish titles to Media Force, according to one report, with the agreement possibly finalised before the end of this year.

The Sunday Times has reported that sources have claimed that the regional newspaper publisher is in advanced talks to sell its Irish titles including the Donegal Democrat, the Limerick Leader and the Leinster Leader.

However, the paper also explained that its sources had questioned whether Ireland’s competition commission would pass any such deal.

In November, Johnston Press revealed a 7.8 per cent growth in operating profit and a reduction in revenue decline, but that its debt reduction remained a priority, with the money from this deal likely to go towards that.

Neither Johnston Press or Media Force had commented at the time of writing.
