Sony has gone head-to-head with Microsoft with the launch of its PS4 console at a special midnight launch event in Covent Garden, London.

Gamers queued for hours, and in some cases days, to get their hands on the console – just one week after a similarly extravagant birth for Microsoft’s Xbox One.

First in line for the device was Imran Choudhary who had been queung since Tuesday afternoon, he said: “It was always my goal to try and be one of the first people in the country to get hold of a PS4”, he said.

“It certainly takes a lot of commitment and it’s been a bit cold out here but it will all be worth it when I get my console.”

Martyn Gibbs, CEO of videogame retailer Game, said: “This is bigger than anything we’ve ever seen before and it is fantastic to be partnering with Sony for the launch.

“The new generation of consoles will be at the forefront of gaming for years to come and we are very excited to see what the future has to hold.”
